# The result viewer

> Open an analytics result, a saved definition, an audience or a comparison from your agent's link, in one of four read-only modes.

Canonical page: https://anectico.com/docs/agents/result-viewer/

When your agent measures something, it keeps the answer as a stored result. The result viewer is
the proof page for that answer. It is at `/view/result`. Your agent gives you the link, and you
check the numbers yourself.

The viewer only reads. It shows what was measured. It does not run a new measurement, it has no
chart builder and no save button, and it sends no write request.

## Ask your agent

> Measure how many people who started checkout last week completed it, and give me a link I can open.

| Job | MCP tool | CLI command |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Run a measurement and keep the result | `query_product_analytics` | `anectico analytics query` |
| Read a stored result again | `get_analytics_result` | `anectico analytics result get` |
| Compare two results of the same question | `compare_analytics_results` | `anectico analytics remeasurement compare` |
| Read a saved audience | `get_analytics_audience` | `anectico analytics audiences get` |
| Read a saved insight | `get_saved_insight` | `anectico analytics insights get` |

The tool result lists the link in `links`, as an entry titled "Analytics result" with the address in
`href`. A comparison is titled "Comparison of two results". A result that is still running, or that
failed, also has a link, and the viewer shows its status. See
[Measure product events](/docs/investigate/product-analytics) for what each measurement means.

## The four modes

The link's query string decides the mode. Every mode names its project in `project_id`. A link
that mixes the parameters of two modes is refused. It is not guessed.

| Mode | Query string | It shows |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Result | `project_id`, `result` | One stored result. The kind comes from the stored result, never from the address. |
| Definition | `project_id`, `insight`, `revision` | A saved insight's definition at one exact revision. It measures nothing. |
| Audience | `project_id`, `audience`, `generation` | One exact audience at one generation: its size, dates and the original measurement. |
| Comparison | `project_id`, `result`, `compare` | Two results side by side. `result` is the earlier one and `compare` is the later one. |

A revision or a generation in a link is always a positive whole number. A link never says "latest",
because a link must show the same thing every time.

### Result

The viewer shows one stored result, and above it the question that was asked and when it was
measured. A stored result does not change. It is kept until the date the page shows.

There are ten kinds of result. The viewer reads the kind from the stored result, so a link cannot
make one kind look like another.

| Kind | What it measures |
| --- | --- |
| Trend | An event or measure over time |
| Funnel | How many people complete each step in order |
| Retention | How many people come back |
| Engagement | How active people are |
| Paths | What people do before or after an event |
| Correlation | What goes with converting |
| Web analytics | Visitors, sessions, referrers and channels |
| Revenue | Gross, refunds and net revenue |
| Survey | Answers to an in-product survey |
| Heatmap | Where visitors click on one page, drawn over a masked backdrop of the page |

Web analytics, revenue, survey and heatmap results show customer content. To read them you need
the event-content permission `agents:content:read` as well as the analytics permissions. Without
it, the page says which permission is missing and shows nothing from the result.

### Definition

The viewer shows a saved insight as it was at one revision: its events, measure, restrictions and
date window. A definition is not a result. Opening it measures nothing. To get numbers, ask your
agent to run that revision. See [Manage saved insights](/docs/investigate/saved-insights).

Scheduled reports link to a definition, so a reader can see what the report measures. See
[Send a scheduled report](/docs/investigate/scheduled-reports).

### Audience

The viewer shows one exact generation of a saved audience. Its membership is fixed. When your agent
replaces an audience, the old generation keeps its people until it expires. The page shows the
generation, when it was saved, when it expires and the measurement it came from. After the
generation expires, the people are no longer shown.

### Comparison

The viewer shows two results of the same kind, one on each side. The earlier result is on the
left or on top. The page also tells you whether the two ask the same question apart from their
dates and audiences, and whether their windows, coverage reports and identity observations match.

Matching reports do not prove complete capture or identical people, and the page says so. The
comparison does not show that one thing caused another. The page refuses a pair when the two
results are of different kinds, when they are the same observation, or when the link names them in
the wrong order. It shows neither side in that case.

## When a result cannot be shown

| What you see | Why | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Analytics access required** | Your role lacks analytics and person read permissions | Ask an owner or administrator for them |
| **Event content permission required** | The result shows customer content and you lack `agents:content:read` | Ask an owner or administrator for it |
| **Measurement expired** | The result is past its retention. The contributor and event details are hidden. | Ask your agent to measure it again |
| **Measurement withdrawn** | The result was withdrawn and can no longer be read | Ask your agent to measure it again |
| **Measurement unavailable** | Your current permissions or the source data could not be checked, so nothing is shown | Use **Recheck measurement** or try again later |
| **Generation expired** | An audience generation is past its retention | Ask your agent for a current audience |
| **Link incomplete or damaged** | The link does not name exactly one result, definition, audience or pair | Ask your agent for a new link |
